Senior Software Engineer Java | B2B Contract

We are looking for a Java software engineer to join our NPR Batch squad, where we are building a new cloud-native system for handling payments.

You will be part of an organisation that delivers digital financial solutions to customers and plays a key role in Danske Bank’s digital transformation. We see technology as a key driver of change and IT as a core enabler of the bank’s future competitiveness.

What you will do:

As part of the team, you will design and build cloud-native systems that are central to payment processing in a major financial institution.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing scalable cloud-native services.
• Building microservice-based applications using Java.
• Contributing to a new payments platform.
• Working with event-driven architecture and messaging technologies.
• Writing clean, testable, and well-structured code.
• Creating and improving automated tests, including unit and integration tests.
• Collaborating closely with developers, architects, testers, product owners, and other teams across the bank.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for someone who enjoys engineering high-quality software and wants to work with business-critical systems in a modern cloud-native environment.

We expect you to have:

• Strong experience with Java and related development tools.
• Good understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
• Knowledge of design patterns and software engineering best practices.
• Experience with service-oriented or cloud-native systems
• Experience with messaging systems such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar.
• Strong focus on test automation, clean code, and maintainability.
• Ability to take ownership and deliver in a structured manner.
• Positive attitude and collaborative mindset.
• Good communication skills.
• Upper-intermediate English skills or higher.

It would be an advantage if you have experience with:

• Event-driven microservice architecture.
• Apache Kafka, especially Kafka Streams.
• Kubernetes resource configuration.
• Automated testing, including unit and integration testing.
• CI/CD pipelines and GitOps practices.
• Observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Kibana.
• Financial services, payment systems or other business-critical platforms.

About the team:

The NPR Batch squad contributes to the development of a new cloud-native payments system and works closely with other teams across Danske Bank to deliver reliable, scalable and modern payment solutions.
